Familial hypothalamic hypogonadotropic hypogonadism.

چکیده
Clinical findings and endocrine studies are reported concerning six subjects (from two pedigrees) suffering from isolated hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. Their complete lack of any gonadotropin response to clomiphene stimulation, together with positive responses of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) to LH-releasing-hormone stimulation (LH-RH) provide evidence for a hypothalamic basis for this disorder. Additional data are presented indicating that variables such as circulating estrogen levels may influence the gonadotropin response to LH-RH.

Familial cerebellar ataxia and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism: evidence for hypothalamic LHRH deficiency.
A family with familial cerebellar ataxia and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism is described. The condition was inherited as an autosomal recessive defect. CT scan in one case revealed cerebellar and brain stem atrophy. Endocrinological tests showed abnormalities only in two patients who were clinically affected. In both cases raised gonadotropic levels were found after repetitive stimulation with l...
متن کاملSyndrome of cerebellar ataxia and hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism: evidence for pituitary gonadotrophin deficiency.
Familial cerebellar ataxia with hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism is a rare condition. Two affected siblings in a sibship of three were studied and found to have low plasma gonadotrophin levels. No rise in gonadotrophin levels was demonstrable after repeated stimulation with LHRH. The pattern of TSH and prolactin responses to TRH stimulation suggest hypothalamic dysfunction. The results clearly id...
متن کاملHypogonadotropic Hypogonadism Revisited
Impaired testicular function, i.e., hypogonadism, can result from a primary testicular disorder (hypergonadotropic) or occur secondary to hypothalamic-pituitary dysfunction (hypogonadotropic). Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism can be congenital or acquired. Congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism is divided into anosmic hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (Kallmann syndrome) and congenital normosmic iso...
متن کاملGenetics of Isolated Hypogonadotropic Hypogonadism: Role of GnRH Receptor and Other Genes
Hypothalamic gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) is a key player in normal puberty and sexual development and function. Genetic causes of isolated hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (IHH) have been identified during the recent years affecting the synthesis, secretion, or action of GnRH. Developmental defects of GnRH neurons and the olfactory bulb are associated with hyposmia, rarely associated wit...
متن کاملPlasma kisspeptin levels in male cases with hypogonadism.
The hypothalamic hormone kisspeptin (metastin) regulates human reproduction by modulating gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion. Kisspeptin is detected in peripheral blood, although GnRH is not. In this study, we measured plasma kisspeptin levels in four male cases with hypogonadism and seven normal male controls using enzyme immunoassay (EIA) to elucidate the clinical implications of...
